Team Dating
Thank goodness for text messaging in these days of solitude. It has become a nightly sport for the Terrace ladies (Team 'Your Boyfriend thinks We're Hot') to take on the text messaging boys who are pursuing my roommates. I am everyone's VIP since I have the most time on my hands. So one of the roommates has had a male suitor for some time now. The majority of the courtship is via recent means of technology. Just to note: I like snail mail. I want to be courted the old fashioned way. Okay, so maybe no one ever really courted through mail or maybe I should look for a soldier to entertain but for now let's focus on the sport at hand.
Poor young lad, he is so witty in his little texts but little does he know the Terrace (Team "your boyfriend thinks we're hot") has turned this into a little game and yes, we always win.
Cute Roommate 'A' (names disclosed to protect the innocent - and those that dont know their love lives are being blogged about) will read aloud the most recent perplexing text. All the while, roommates, B (and C if she decides to participate - (she is the bench sitter for the most part but a great asset to the team) and myself analyze the text message and elicit appropriate responses. Cute Roommate 'A' chooses the best response or a mixture of the two, crosses her fingers and pushes the SEND button. Witty young tyke on the other end immediatly responds back with something a little trickier and yes, maybe we are stumped - but only for a moment. Untimately, we always win and always have the greatest responses. I am not sure if we have furthered the romance or only confused it but for Team "Your Boyfriend thinks We're Hot" - our job is done.
So, moving on to roommate C - the team player! Her latest heartthrob perfers the email method as opposed to text. Young, out of town chap emails my Perfect roommate C constantly and is very interested in roommate C in the emails. He even broached the subject of making a trip to the Terrace to visit Roommate C from his neighboring state. Roommate C was a rockstar on this one. We summoned Team "Your boyfriend thinks We're Hot" and we all agreed that, yes, this feller needed to be clued in a bit. The Team decided that some phone interaction must occur before any out of town visits are made. Boys are scared of the phone and human contact these days due to recent jumps in technology. Boys no longer have to ask Sally or Suzy to check yes or no. They dont even ask - they just assume that if they text or email more times during the day than maybe they go to the bathroom then a majority of their thoughts are with their girl object and so, yes, she is his atleast for the day. Way to go roommate C - she maturly criticised the boy's laxidaisical ( I know you dont spell that word like that and I really dont know what it means but I like it there) attempts to woo her over the world wide web. Needless to say, the internet-cowboy called Roommate C twice in the day of confrontation and daily since and though we still not think much of this boy - he may be allowed an out of town visit for his ability to successfully rehab his dating efforts.
Well, all the teammates have left the premises and I am left typing. They are all in their rooms yes, typing and texting merrilly down the stream. And once again, I sit and write to myself.
Now, that's hot.
